Context
Microscopes come with ring lights, donut shaped LED lights that illuminate the object under the microscope evenly and from all angles to create a shadow free image. These ring lights need more and more light output as the technology of the microscope advances.
The two major challenges of the project are the limited space the LED lights can take and the very limited and precise temperature output. The ring lights are very close to the surfaces under study – a rise of temperature at this level can affect the metrology or damage the surface.
ALTEN's achievements
The following tasks were performed:
Optical design – after theoretical approach, also choosing the right LED engine and secondary optics.
Thermal management – theoretical and validating the solutions.
Complete mechanical design of the system.
