Elevating Reporting Efficiency through ALTEN’s Integrated Solution

In the realm of financial management, data-driven insights are paramount for informed decision-making. A prominent provider of fund expenses control and monitoring services recognised the need to enhance its reporting capabilities to deliver real-time, actionable insights to its clients. To address this imperative, the provider solicited our tailor-made services and innovative solutions. Together, we’ve successfully overhauled their reporting infrastructure, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices.

Our Comprehensive Approach

ALTEN Luxembourg approached the project with a holistic strategy, encompassing various facets of reporting optimisation:

  1.  SQL Query Optimisation: Our SQL experts undertook a comprehensive overhaul of our client’s database queries, optimising them for enhanced performance and efficiency. By fine-tuning data retrieval processes, ALTEN significantly reduced processing times, enabling faster access to critical information.
  2. Automation and On-Demand Reporting: We then leveraged Microsoft’s SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to automate report generation processes. This integration enabled our client to generate on-demand reports tailored to specific criteria, eliminating the need for manual intervention and streamlining operations.
  3. Business Intelligence Integration: We’ve seamlessly integrated Power BI, Microsoft’s powerful BI tool, into our client’s reporting ecosystem. This integration facilitated intuitive data visualisation and analysis, empowering clients to glean actionable insights from complex datasets with ease.
  4. ETL Transformation with SSIS: We’ve implemented Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to transform raw data into actionable insights. This involved cleansing, structuring, and aggregating data from disparate sources, ensuring consistency and accuracy in reporting.
  5. Analytics Database Implementation: Finally, we deployed a Tabular model in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to establish an Analytics database layer. This layer provided a structured framework for data analysis, enabling clients to explore trends, patterns, and anomalies within their fund expenses data.

Key Achievements and Performance Enhancements

Our collaborative efforts yielded remarkable outcomes, enhancing reporting efficiency and client satisfaction:

  • Significant Performance Boost: By optimising queries and streamlining ETL processes, particularly the calculation of data loading to SSAS, ALTEN successfully reduced computation times from a lengthy 24 hours to a mere 20 minutes. This optimisation has enabled our client to achieve near-real-time access to critical insights, empowering stakeholders with timely and actionable information. While the computation of ETL to SSAS contributes to the bulk of this time, the rendering of reports takes only a few seconds, demonstrating the efficiency gains achieved through ALTEN’s interventions.
  • Enhanced Data Analysis: The deployment of Power BI and SSAS enabled clients to perform in-depth analysis of fund expenses data, uncovering actionable insights and driving informed decision-making.
  • Historical Data Preservation: ALTEN implemented a delta calculation mechanism, enabling our client to retain historical data while calculating only the changes, facilitating easy comparison between dates and enhancing analytical capabilities.

Future Outlook

With the successful implementation of the revamped reporting infrastructure, our client is poised to strengthen its position as a leader in fund expenses management. Moving forward, we remain committed to continuous improvement, leveraging emerging technologies to deliver unparalleled value to our clients in the financial services industry.
